I knew Alan since junior high school (Washington), maybe before - memory easily turns foggy.  He was a good drummer.

We had a talent show at Washington. Alan played drums - as I recall, with another drummer as well.  I was in stage crew.  For the talent show, I believe I ran the light board - imagine 1940s technology and that's what we had in the auditorium for a light board.

Alan wanted a strobe light at certain segments of his performance.  Other acts, once seeing this, decided they wanted the same for their performance.

It bugged Alan - what he felt would be a unique aspect of his performance ended up almost overwhelming the show.

In high school, we would play together once in a while, at his house as I recall - he was an infinitely better drummer than I was a piano player!

He was a really good guy.  This is sad to read.

Alan and I go back all the way to Edison Elementary school. I can remember going over to his house near Chaney Trail
